The Whitehall Orchestra is an ambitious, non-professional symphony orchestra. We currently rehearse on Thursday evenings between 7pm and 9.00pm at BEIS, 1 Victoria Street (nearest tubes St James' Park and Westminster). The orchestra is open to all and we encourage enquiries from good players who are willing to commit to regular rehearsals during term time and three concerts a year. We work to a high standard and play a huge range of repertoire, often including big pieces that are just fantastic to play. We are a social orchestra – we go to the pub after each rehearsal and after concerts and have a social evening once a term. Our members come from all walks of life and our youngest are in their early twenties and our oldest in their nineties!

We are delighted to be playing again post-pandemic and encourage enquiries from good lower string players - viola, cello, bass. We’ve got almost a full complement of wind and brass players at the moment but with opportunities for 3rd trumpet/co-principal and for horn players. All sections run a waiting/deps/extras list – please enquire. The minimum standard is Grade 7 for Strings and Grade 8+ for wind and brass with admission by trial rehearsal.

We welcome musicians of this standard who are disabled or have other special needs. Our rehearsal venue has good access for wheelchairs and for those with impaired sight. Some of our concert venues, however, do not have such good access.

Subscriptions are currently £70 per term. Rates for deps and other extra players by arrangement.
